Leading the vision and strategy, Barney is a blockchain believer who has worked with capital markets and financial products since 2008, and has explored, invested in and built on blockchain since 2012.

While at Capco, he helped design and prototype applications of distributed ledger technology, and advised top tier banks on blockchain strategy. Previously, he designed multiple launched releases of the trade matching engine for the London Stock Exchange, used for millions of trades daily, valued at £100s of billions.

Barney’s interest in cryptography and cryptocurrencies led him to mine bitcoin on a small scale in its early days, and invest in Ethereum presale. He and Edd are also co-founders of Pik, a SaaS offering for publishers, supported by the Google DNI Fund. Pik APIs are used by over 1m unique users per month.

We are transforming how financial markets work, so no one gets to stack the odds against anyone else. On Vega Protocol, markets are open and fair, fees are shared by market makers — not centralised institutions — and governance decisions are made by the community.

What we’re doing isn’t easy. Building a fast, decentralised system is hard. Ensuring it’s fair without a central owner is complex. But we’re not intimidated by challenges. We’re motivated by them.

We can’t do this without an active community. Tell us what you think. Read our protocol whitepaper, and follow our progress on Twitter.
